I grew up in Delaware, the country’s first state. I was fortunate to spend a great deal of my childhood outdoors and exploring nature. I decided I wanted to help protect natural beauty such as I saw in Delaware’s forests, streams, gardens and open fields. I always kept that in sight as I progressed through my schooling. Though I was offered a full musical scholarship to attend the University of Delaware, I decided to go across the bridge to the neighboring state of New Jersey and attend Rutgers University.
That decision was one of the best I’ve ever made. Rutgers was a community that celebrated diversity, creativity and intellectual accomplishment, and brought out the best in me. I graduated with a degree in American Studies, where I was able to entertain my fascination with American popular culture and get a B.A. in the process. I was active in Rutgers’ music program throughout college and obtained a music minor.
After college I served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at the 82d Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. I completed seven parachute jumps during my service. It was an honor to serve alongside my fellow soldiers and in such close proximity to elite divisions such as Special Forces and the Golden Knights.
Upon my honorable discharge, I attended law school at Nova Southeastern University. I was active in the school’s environmental program and law society. In my third year I became a certified legal intern with the Environmental Law and Land Use Center and was privileged to work on some of the most important public interest cases in Florida. I graduated with special honors for my pro bono service, both for environmental service and for my clerkship with the West Palm Beach Circuit Court in 2002.
My legal career began in 1997 as a paralegal in New York City. The common theme has always been litigation. I have seen what it takes to be successful in litigation: hard work, thorough preparation and knowing your audience. As a result of my strong foundations in New York, my legal education and work experience, I am an experienced Florida litigator who has represented clients in courtrooms throughout the state. I thrive on going to court and getting results for clients.
I have handled almost every phase of litigation and am also seasoned in legal writing and research. I have written two litigation guides for the American Bar Association: Foreclosure Defense: A Practical Litigation Guide (2011) and Civil Rights Litigation: Representing Plaintiffs Today (2013).
My hobbies include writing, running, spending time with family and my awesome son, spending time in nature and traveling our nation’s highways and byways.
