Motorcycle Laws Protect Riders

FLORIDA WEATHER PLAYS A BIG FACTOR WITH MOTORCYCLISTS

Many people may think believe that motorcycle laws are exactly the same as those that are in place for drivers of passenger vehicles. While this is mostly accurate, there are specific laws in place that are exclusively for those who ride motorcycles. It is obvious that there are significant differences between bikes and other automobiles. Being exposed to weather elements while on the road is one of the major differences which can create more of a risk to motorcyclists than other drivers. Weather elements in Florida that especially impact exposed riders of motorcycles include:

  • Bright Sunlight / Heat
  • Rain / Wet Roads
  • Hail
  • High Winds
  • Cold Weather

While many drivers of enclosed automobiles take these elements for granted, those who ride motorcycles are fully aware of the danger that weather can impose on roadways.

FLORIDA MOTORCYCLE LAWS PROTECT RIDERS

Knowing that riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous, statistically, than driving a car, it is clear to see why certain laws are specific to those wanting to cruise on their bikes. Some traffic laws that are in place and exclusive to motorcyclists include:

  • Mandatory Use of Headlights during the Day
  • Mandatory Use of Eye Protection
  • Mandatory Maximum Height of Handle Bars; No Higher than Shoulders of Driver
  • No Earphones Permitted; Helmet Speakers are allowed

If you or someone you know drives a motorcycle, it is extremely important to be completely familiar with all of the laws that are in place to protect riders.

IMPROPER LANE USAGE CAN LEAD TO MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENTS

Overtaking other drivers and sharing lanes on roadways can lead to serious problems for motorcyclists. It is important to note that motorcycles cannot be operated between automobiles in the flow of traffic. Attempting to pass in the middle of other motorists can be extremely dangerous as they may not be able to see an upcoming motorcyclist as quickly as the biker may think.

Sharing a lane between two motorcycles is perfectly legal as per the Florida Traffic Laws. A problem can be created if more than two bikes attempt to use the same lane as other drivers may not be able to determine if those bikers are in need of more room to maneuver.

A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT LAWYER CAN HELP

Not knowing the traffic laws that govern motorcyclists can be detrimental to those choosing to ride bikes. If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle accident and have questions about the laws here in Florida, you need to contact an attorney who can give you a clear understanding of the laws and your rights.
